So, I couldn't think of a clever title for this very small, random post.
I did the first leg of my Couch to 5K week 4. It required running for 5 MINUTES IN A ROW. This is very difficult for the slightly (or even more than slightly!?) overweight person who's two children and a couple of gimpy feet past running. Still, I was able to do it without being taken to the emergency room. That's something.
A couple of weeks ago, we had an informal Young Women's party here at the house. I asked the girls what movie they'd like to watch. I included "Steel Magnolias," of course, as it's a classic girl movie and an essential to every woman's film experience. They each looked at me as if I were from Mars and when we voted, NO HANDS went up for this excellent film. Clearly, my work is cut out for me. :) Actually, if I went back and watched the thing, I'm sure I'd realize it was totally inappropriate for me to show the YW, and hence not appropriate for me, either! I love it too much to give it up now.
I haven't posted anything about the kids lately, so here's my chance. Hunter is absolutely the cutest human being I've ever encountered. He has SO MUCH personality (as does Helena, although they're very different), which he augments with many different funny faces. He rarely puts his head on my shoulder but when he does, my heart melts utterly. He can say a handful of random words, including "Pooh," "cow," and "go?" (always said as a question, as in, "Can we go?"). He still likes baths, and is a fast little runner - especially when headed down the driveway into the street. He's aware of what's going on and seems pretty bright. So's Helena - maybe a little too smart!? - but she can also be sweet and compassionate. She's always worried about Sis. Nash from church. "Mommy, why is that lady sitting alone? Won't she be lonely? Will someone sit with her?" Then, when Ashley comes in and sits by Sis. Nash, Helena will say, "Mommy, that girl is sitting by the lady. Is she lonely now?" Helena and Hunter have started playing with each other now. In fact, Helena woke Hunter up from his nap today because she wanted to play with him on our new moon bounce thingy. I was upset by this, since it was WAY too early for Hunter to wake up, but I appreciated that at least they love each other. Later this evening, they were running around the house, screaming with laughter, and somehow Hunter hurt his little baby foot. He wouldn't put weight on it for about an hour. I naturally wanted to rush to the E.R. but Dan advised that we wait until the morning since nothing was swollen and the only time Hunter complained was when he tried to walk. After about an hour, he seemed to be back to normal. I'm still on Mommy Watch, though.
I don't know. I guess I'm in love with them.

And who wouldn't be absoultly in love with those two. I am going to have to make those pics part of my screen saver or something. Oh and watch out for the leg thing. Remember that girl I worked with whose daughter mysteriously broke her leg? She was only 18 months or so. It didn't swell or anything except she wouldn't walk on it. I hope he is good. Love you
It's a deep deep mommy love isn't it? It's great how you are taking the time to slow down and soak up the moments that make our lives full.
Yes, your kids are adorable and I love having Helena in Primary. I love her little comments and enthusiasm for sharing time and singing.
As far as the YW thing goes...you might think you have lots to learn (just like we did while in the YW pres), but your Steel Magnolia's story doesn't compare to my RED DOOR story! Haha. What was I thinking? Remember: Red door= grandmas car smell. -sigh-
The YW will always think we are dorky in some way just because we are old, but they will still love us regardless (well, in my situation..SOME of them will still love me. haha.
SO CUTE!! They are so adorable. Helena is so sweet to think about Sis. Nash, and Ash is so nice to look after her. Hunter IS just as you describe him. FULL of personality and expression. It is so fun when siblings start to play together. And YEA! for pictures!
Way to go on the running- I don't think I could run for even 5 minutes straight. I'd have a cramp in my side and be passed out in someone's lawn.
Funny how we re-evaluate what we watch based on who might find out we're watching it. This is true with my kids- now that they are old enough to know, we DVR a lot of shows we could've watched with them in the room when they were very little! Steel Magnolias is a GREAT movie though!
Love the pictures of the kids- and your words about them. They are oh so cute.
I broke my foot when I was 4 but my mom just thought I was being overly dramatic, but changed her tune a week or so later when a big bruise appeared on the bottom of my foot. Then the broken foot was discovered. I'm guessing Hunter's fine though- maybe it's just a corn. ;)
Ahhh, they are both so cute!
I love Steel Magnolias! I grew up on that movie. Definitely a staple and a must see!
Isn't it funny how different kids can be? My kids have totally different personalities, too, and I love just watching them react to life in their own ways.
Congrats on the running! No way would I be able to run for five mins. straight...even if I wasn't pregnant!!!
Trust me on this running thing...it's slow, my feet barely leave the pavement, and it looks idiotic. (In fact, I no longer run outdoors b/c the treadmill's easier on my shins, but the best benefit is that I'm not offending my neighbors!).
Hunter's foot update: The next morning he was completely fine. So, once again, Dan's right on this. (Happens all the time).
Now I'm laughing at Leanne's Red Door story again! My hope is that the girls will learn to appreciate "classic" movies sometime in their future...
