Yet ANOTHER Crazy Day

This evening we had some company for dinner, so it was destined to be a crazy day. You know - you want your house to look great, better than usual, certainly, and of course there's the meal to prepared and planned (with an inevitable last-minute shopping run to get everything you need). On top of that, we decided to do a few store returns around town, but realized that we'd forgotten the stuff to return! By this point we were almost fighting (Helena: "Don't be mad, guys!").

The day ran too late, with too much excitement and no nap for Helena. I'm paying for that now. She's throwing a fit royale in her room right now. (Exactly like the last time I blogged!). I wonder if I'll remember any of this when she's a beautiful, talented, generous high school senior giving a commencement speech? :)

A question for all of you: Do you ever go on big vacations? And how often? Did you go on said vacations when you were a kid?

I'm hoping that someday I get so good at "entertaining" that it will be as easy for me as whipping up a batch of cookies: I know all the ingredients and which bowls I need, and I can get it together and in the oven in less than 10 minutes. Maybe someday I'll be able to prepare and execute a lovely, gracious meal and be a fantastic host to boot. (Of course, it would help if the house were already clean! Give me 40-50 years and I'll get there, I promise.)

When M and I are talking with voices any louder than normal, Lily comes (from anywhere in the house, mind you) and says, "Don't fight, guys!" She and Helena must have gotten together to help us all be more harmonious.

No vacations for my family of origin, but I hope to break that cycle. Money used for family vacations is money well spent, especially when there's a Disney involved. You really need to go.

I agree with Rachel! Vacations with your family and just with your spouse are totally important. We don't have the money to do anything fancy now, but we still try to do small stuff. Dinsey World is a huge blast that kids remember for FOREVER! Even Helena's age. I think I was about H's age when I first went and I still remember swimming in the pool and loving the dumbo ride!

You're a great host Beth! You did great last night! I'm hoping that someday having people over will be as easy for me. Don't be too hard on yourself.

You guys are the best ever. I love your encouragement. My first Disney World memories come from when I was three...I was on the Peter Pan ride and a huge crocodile was right underneath me. My shoelaces were untied and I thought it was going to bite them off! I was smitten from the start. Thanks again.
